Reception/Awards: June 24 My grateful thanks to the juror Dan Welden and to Director & Curator Martin McFadden, LRPS!For the purposes of this exhibition, works on paper include, but are not limited to, monotypes, photography using any photographic process, hand-pulled prints from any printmaking process (etching, solarplate, linocut, lithographs, etc), watercolor, acrylic, or oil on paper, pastel, charcoal, pen and ink, drawings, collage on paper.
About The JurorDan Welden is a master printmaker, painter, teacher and author. He has been making prints and works on paper for over 40 years. His work has been shown in over 65 international solo exhibitions in museums and galleries and over 500 group exhibitions in the U.S., Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand and Peru. His work is in many public and private collections throughout the country including the Amity Art Foundation, Baltimore Museum of Art; Portland Museum of Art; and Temple University, among many others.
Dan is an innovator at the forefront of the alternative health and safety oriented movement of printmaking, and the originator of a printmaking technique called the Solarplate method. Dan is the Co-Author with Pauline Muir of 'Printmaking in the Sun' published by Watson Guptill in 2001, the comprehensive manual of solarplate methods. He is currently working on an updated edition.
As a teacher, Dan continues to inspire students around the world in workshops where he demonstrates how to make solarplates and print both intaglio and relief plates. His has run month-long summer workshops at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, attended by students from Europe, Australia and America. He is a past president of the Society of American Graphic Artists. He has taught printmaking at several colleges in the New York area including Stony Brook University, Suffolk Community College, Long Island University Southampton, and Central Connecticut State University. His demonstrations at the New York State Art Teacher's Association Conferences, Southern Graphics Council and Mid America Print Council Conferences inspire teachers, students and artists to make prints using the safer and greener methods of solarplate etching.
About The Gallery12 12 Gallery specializes in Fine Art Photography and Contemporary Art and represents emerging local and national artists through solo and group exhibitions. 12 12 Gallery features work by local and national artists in three unique gallery settings, launched every 6 weeks.
Each year 12 12 Gallery hosts three national juried art and photography exhibitions: the Manchester Fine Arts Exhibition, the Exhibition for the Arts and the National Photography Exhibition. Fine art photographers and artists from all over the country compete for cash prizes and awards. Past jurors for these exhibitions have included Stephen Perloff, founder and editor of The Photo Review; Jeff Harrison, Chief Curator, Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia; Lee Hansley of Lee Hansley Gallery, Raleigh, North Carolina; and Brian Clamp owner and founder of ClampArt in New York, New York.
Co-founded and owned by Martin McFadden and Lynn Limon, 12 12 Gallery was established to provide a gallery where emerging artists could exhibit work and gain some exposure without large gallery fees and red tape. Says Martin about the gallery, "It's about supporting the emerging artist because I'm an emerging artist."
Photographers and Artists-In-Residence include: Charles Philip Brooks, Marti Fann, Mike Keeling, Lisa Neher, Alison Overton, Krishanna Spencer and Inge Strack.
